Greene’s Rice wins conference title; girls place 6th, boys place 13th at Class C Championship

TRUMANSBURG – It was a good day to run as the Greene Trojans got set to compete at the 2017 Class C Championships on Thursday May 25.
The Trojan’s Madison Rice won a Class C Championship in the 400m dash running a time of 1:02.66 as her performance led to her team to sixth place finish, as the Trojan’s scored 24 points. Rice’s win also claimed the top finish of the day for Greene.
Greene got on the board with a sixth place finish in the 4x800m relay as the quartet of Mary Klecha, Alyssa Davenport, Katie Anderson and Chloe Parks ran a time of 11:24.78 minutes. Katie Anderson placed third in the 1500m run, finishing the middle-distance event with a time of 5:10.06 minutes. Chloe Parks placed sixth in the 800m run, crossing the tape with a time of 2:35.82 minutes. Nicole Flohr took seventh place in the 200m dash with a time of 28.85 seconds.
Amanda Walker finished the 3000m race with a time of 13:23.34 for a fifth place finish in the event. The 4x100m team of Nicole Flohr, Brianna Austin, Ashley Whitaker and Madison Rice crossed the finish line in a time of 55.13 seconds for a seventh place finish. The 4x400 relay team placed fourth behind the efforts of Mary Klecha, Anderson, Flohr and Rice who timed for a team time of 4:36.26 minutes.
The boys from Greene finished with a 13th place finish scoring a total of 4.50 team points.
The Trojans began the scoring with a sixth place finish in the 110m hurdles event as Coy Austin sprinted to the finish line, timing 17.28 seconds. Nathan Berry placed seventh in the 400m dash as he timed 56.84 seconds.
The 4x100m relay team of Coy Austin, Nathan Berry, Robert Mills and Nathan Erickson placed fifth in the event, timing for a speedy 48.02 seconds. The 4x400m relay squadron claimed a seventh place finish as Nathan Berry, Nolan Butler, Robert Champlain, and Nolan Scofield ran to the tune of a 4:05.50 minute time. Coy Austin placed seventh in the long jump, leaping for 18’02.”
The Trojans will be back in action this week when they attend the New York State Qualifiers on Wednesday, May 31, at Union-Endicott High School and Thursday, June 1, at Vestal High School for a chance to qualify for the New York State Track and Field Championships.
